Le juge du classement général
Piancavallo, a basin on the eastern slopes of Monte Cavallo, has been part of Giro d’Italia history since its debut in 1998, when Marco Pantani launched his campaign towards the historic Giro–Tour double.
In 2017 Mikel Landa won, while in 2020 Tao Geoghegan Hart prevailed and went on to take the Maglia Rosa, in an era increasingly defined by numbers and power data, as Vincenzo Nibali noted after the stage.
The climb is demanding: 14.5 km at 7.8%, with a very tough opening section (6.5 km at 9.4%).
In 2026 it will be decisive, tackled twice in Stage 20: the final opportunity to change the general classification before the grand finale in Rome.
