The gateway to the Dolomites
Surrounded by peaks over 2,000 metres, Andalo lies on the Brenta–Paganella plateau and is a frequent feature of major cycling races.
The climb to the KOM, from Molveno, is not particularly difficult: 8.3 km at 3.9%, but its position – cresting just over 10 km from the finish – makes it a potential launchpad for decisive attacks.
Andalo has already hosted two Giro stage finishes: in 1973 Eddy Merckx won as the dominant force of that edition, while in 2016 Alejandro Valverde prevailed, beating Maglia Rosa Steven Kruijswijk, with Vincenzo Nibali struggling.
In 2026, however, the stage is expected to be easier than in the past: the Cassano d’Adda–Andalo stage appears as a transition stage, ideal for attackers and stage hunters.
