Narvaez wins stage 12 of the Giro d’Italia, Almeida retains the Maglia Rosa

Jhonatan Manuel Narvaez (Team Ineos Grenadiers) soloed to win Stage 12 of the 103rd Giro d’Italia, 204km from Cesenatico to Cesenatico. Breakaway companions Mark Padun (Bahrain – McLaren) and Simon Clarke (EF Pro Cycling) finished second and third, respectively.

João Almeida (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) retains the Maglia Rosa and leads the general classification.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Jhonatan Manuel Narvaez said: “I want to dedicate this victory, my first in the WorldTour, to Nico Portal, I learned a lot from him. Today I woke up with the right spirit and wanted to be the protagonist in this stage. It is not a problem for me to race in the rain, in fact, I prefer it to the hot weather.

The Maglia Rosa João Almeida said: “Today was a very tough stage. I am happy to have managed to keep the Maglia Rosa. Once again my team was extraordinary, I’m really grateful to my teammates.
