FantaGiro d’Italia: Pedersen wins Stage 5 and stretches his lead in the overall standings

14/05/2025

With a commanding sprint finish in Matera, Mads Pedersen (Lidl–Trek) claimed victory in Stage 5 of the FantaGiro d’Italia, a 151 km test from Ceglie Messapica to Matera. This marks the Dane’s third stage victory in this year’s edition of the fantasy game, allowing him to earn a total of 76 points. His haul comes from multiple sources: the 30 points for the stage win itself, 10 for topping the overall standings, 5 for Lidl–Trek leading the Super Team classification, 10 for the “Bouquet Bonus” (awarded to the rider who tosses flowers or gear from the podium), another 10 for the “Calm Before the Storm” bonus, 1 point from the Conad bonus, and 10 more for the Novi “All-Out Finale” awarded to the sprint winner.

Finishing second on the stage was Davide Bais (Team Polti VisitMalta), one of the day’s key breakaway riders, who collected 45 points. His score came from placements in the intermediate sprints and Red Bull KM, second place at the KOM, as well as the Combativity and Breakaway Awards. He also received the Conad bonus and the daily bonus.

Completing the podium was Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS Astana Team), who earned 30 points, thanks to a combination of the Greeting Bonus, the Bouquet Bonus, and the daily stage bonus.
