tourist info

Superga is one of the highest hills of Turin (672m above sea level). Perched atop the hill is the Basilica of the same name.

The Basilica of Superga is a ‘celebratory monument’, built (in the first half of the 1700s) at the behest of King Vittorio Amedeo II as a thanksgiving to the Virgin Mary, after defeating the French army. Its imposing size (51m in length and 75m in height – the Dome) makes it visible from great distances, first of all from Turin. Similarly, from the hill (as well as from the Dome of the Basilica, with a spiral staircase of 131 steps) you can enjoy a stunning view of the city and the Alps.

You can also get to the Basilica by the Sassi-Superga tramway, a hilly rack tramway line.
