tourist info

Tortona is a town in the province of Alessandria, situated on the Scrivia river, on the edge of the Ligurian Apennines and not far from Lombardy. During the 13th century, the Knights Templar were present in Tortona, later spreading the legend that the Holy Grail would give three gifts to the city that guarded it. The motto (on the city’s coat of arms) “Pro tribus donis similis Terdona leonis” (“By virtue of the three gifts Terdona (one of the old names of the town) is like a lion”) is said to derive from this legend”.

From legend to cycling: Tortona gave birth to Luigi Malabrocca, road cyclist known for winning the Giro d’Italia’s “Maglia Nera” several times (The Maglia Nera (Black Jersey) is the term used to identify the last classified in the Giro d’Italia).
