The race fleet
The race fleet will consist of 50 Toyota cars, comprised of 38 Rav4 Hybrids and 12 Corolla Touring Sports, all equipped with the latest evolution of Full Hybrid technology, capable of combining performance with high energy efficiency and extremely low emissions.
The RAV4 Hybrids and Corolla Hybrid Touring Sports that will accompany the riders in the race, in fact, last year recorded performances at the highest levels, traveling along the roads of the event in zero emissions mode for more than 50% of the time, a testimony to the great contribution that Toyota electrified technologies can make to environmental protection and sustainable mobility.
At this year’s Giro, Toyota will participate with a range full of new additions. In a national preview, the Group will unveil the newcomer in the ‘Yaris family’, the Toyota Yaris Cross, an innovative compact SUV equipped with the most advanced Toyota Hybrid technology, which brings with it all the qualities of the latest generation of city cars. Starting from May it will be possible to reserve the car, arriving in September at Toyota Network dealerships.
There is a national premiere also for the second-generation Mirai, a car that embodies the ‘Beyond Zero’ vision of the Toyota Group: it is an electrically powered car, in which electricity is generated in the car thanks to the electrochemical reaction of hydrogen with the oxygen present in the air. The result is a car that goes beyond zero emissions, in addition to having water vapor as the only exhaust product, it also has a filter that is able to clean the air while driving.
Together with Mirai, the New Yaris Hybrid and the New RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid will be the principle protagonists of the ‘Beyond Zero Challenge’: a challenge on sustainability issues that will involve the Toyota Ambassadors on several stages of the Giro d’Italia.
