KNIGHT OF THE FOUR MOORS
Born in San Gavino Monreale, a town in Sardinia, Italy, 3 July 1990, Fabio Aru is nicknamed the “Knight of the four Moors” because of his Sardinian origins. He took to the Giro d’Italia podium in both 2014 and 2015, and in 2018 Aru wore the Tour de France’s yellow jersey for the first time and got a stage win at La Planche des Belles Filles. He was the first Sardinian rider to win a stage of the Giro (Montecampione, 2014) and wore his first Maglia Rosa at the end of the stage to Jesolo in 2015, keeping it for only one day before losing it on the Valdobbiadene ITT, and claiming the best young rider classification for that edition. Aru wore his first Vuelta a España leader’s red jersey in 2015 at the end of the very tough ride in Cortals d’Encamp, and went on to win that edition.
