Presented today at Rinascente Milano, Piazza Duomo, the Grande Weekend de Il Lombardia which will bring down the curtain on the RCS Sports & Events cycling season on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October.
The “Classic of the Falling Leaves”, the last Monument of the year, will start from Como and immediately tackle the Ghisallo from the Asso side, then descend to Bellagio and skirt Lake Como to Lecco. From there, the most challenging part of the route begins, with a series of relentless climbs: Roncola, Berbenno, Dossena, Zambla Alta and the Passo di Ganda, for a total elevation gain of over 4,400 metres. After the descent to Selvino and a short flat section, the grand finale will take place in the picturesque setting of Bergamo’s Upper Town.

Gran Fondo Il Lombardia Felice Gimondi Wurth Modyf
On Sunday 12 October, Cantù will once again host the Gran Fondo Il Lombardia Felice Gimondi Würth Modyf, giving amateur cyclists from around the world the chance to ride on legendary climbs that have shaped the history of this sport.
The race will start in Cantù, with an initial stretch to Maglio, where the gruelling 7 km climb to the hill of Sormano will begin. Here, riders will tackle the legendary Muro di Sormano, with gradients of up to 27%, an epic symbol of cycling. After the descent towards Nesso, the climb to the second challenge begins: the Ghisallo, more regular (9 km at 6.2%) but equally iconic, with the finish line at the famous sanctuary. A long descent leads to Merone, before the last 20 km of rolling hills towards the finish line in Cantù.
