My Giro, I love you so much! A spectacular Giro-E stage 2: 67 kilometres and 1,700 metres of altitude range. You take the cream of the Giro route and head into the Biella countryside in the final kilometres of the pro stage, passing through that monument of the Oasi Zegna and arriving, hairpin bend after hairpin bend, hill after hill, at the Sanctuary of Oropa, where a quarter of century ago Marco Pantani became a legend.
In short, a spectacle.
The Valdengo-Santuario di Oropa stage
Already the starting point of two stages of the Giro d’Italia, in 2014 and 2017, Valdagno set the tone for today’s stage. The arrival, as mentioned, at the Sanctuary of Oropa, was a real climb: 11.8 kilometres at an average of 6.2 %, with peaks of 13 %. The Giro d’Italia has already arrived here six times, but it is never enough for those who have a passion for cycling. There are, however, also three MGPs (Mountain Grand Prix), where the motor certainly served to make today’s stage even more beautiful and unforgettable.
Cyclist of the day – Elisa Scarlatta
Who knows what a thrill it was for our Elisa when she saw the beautiful banner cheering her on today. For her, home was in the air. In her sixth Giro-E, Elisa is now the captain of the Toyota team and is also one of the most active influencers in the troop. Alone she is “worth” over 140,000 followers on Instagram. Who better than her to convey the image of an event like this?
City of Sport and Health, an opportunity for young people: the second stage of the ANCI workshops at the Giro d’Italia in Valdengo.
After starting with a full house on the first day in Turin, with the first local meeting of the ANCI NextGen Community, the series of workshops, organised by ANCI, continues on Sunday 6 May in Valdengo, with the aim of improving the level of engagement of young people in the valorisation of cultural, naturalistic, food and wine resources and excellences of the area as drivers of sustainable local development.
These appointments take place as part of the broader support and financing program for Italian municipalities under the National Youth Policy Fund, created through agreements with the Italian Department for youth policies and universal civil service of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
Cherasco will be an opportunity to address the issue of sustainability and valorisation of resources, recounting different experiences and models: from the revalorisation and recovery of industrial sites, to Upslowtour – a new integrated model of cycle tourism; from widespread regeneration of innovative areas, to participatory mapping for area development, right down to talking about the relationship between cities and citizens, about social protection of the area for real urban redevelopment.
In Cherasco, at the start of the Giro-E stage there is the ANCI e-bike team, led by Giorgio Rocca and made up of local administrators and ambassadors for the territory.
