Giro d’Italia at Vinitaly: partnership with Pinot Grigio DOC unveiled

13/04/2026

Strong attendance at the MASAF Space (Palaexpo) for the press conference “Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC and the Giro d’Italia. Together to drive the sprint of Italian excellence,” promoted by the DOC Delle Venezie Consortium in collaboration with RCS MediaGroup as part of Vinitaly 2026.

The event brought together institutions, businesses, the sporting world and international promotion stakeholders to officially present the partnership that sees Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC become the Official Wine of the 2026 Giro d’Italia, Giro d’Italia Women and Giro Next Gen. The three-year project aims to strengthen the denomination’s positioning on global markets while enhancing the territorial system of Italy’s North-East.

The event was moderated by journalist and TV presenter Barbara Pedrotti, who highlighted the value of an initiative capable of linking sport, wine and institutions in an integrated narrative of contemporary Italy.

Opening remarks were delivered by Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry.

During the conference, Luca Rigotti, President of the DOC Delle Venezie Consortium, outlined the strategic significance of the partnership, describing it as a key reputational milestone in the promotion of the North-Eastern denomination, placing it firmly among globally recognized Italian brands. “The decision to partner with the Giro d’Italia stems from a strong strategic alignment: it is an iconic platform capable of transforming a major sporting event into an authentic narrative of Italian excellence, territory and lifestyle,” said Rigotti. “For Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC, this means becoming part of a story that brings together sport and wellbeing, community and food and wine culture, strengthening our positioning not only in terms of visibility, but above all identity and international reputation”.

The collaboration marks a key step in consolidating the global leadership of Delle Venezie DOC—an ambassador of authentic and contemporary Italian identity—and represents a strategic lever to showcase its values and style to hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide.

Paolo Bellino, CEO and General Manager of RCS Sports & Events, also reaffirmed the importance of the partnership:

“The Giro d’Italia is much more than a sporting competition; it is a global platform that tells the story of the country through its territories, its excellence and its culture. The partnership with the DOC Delle Venezie Consortium is rooted in a shared vision: to promote Italy as an integrated system capable of combining sport, landscape and high-quality production. Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC is a strong, internationally recognized strategic partner, with whom we share the goal of bringing an authentic and contemporary narrative of our national heritage to the world”.

During the talk, former road world champion Maurizio Fondriest highlighted the central role of territory in the Giro d’Italia, noting how each stage represents a unique story of landscapes, communities and local identities—now further enhanced by the connection with a symbolic product such as wine.

ICE President Matteo Zoppas emphasized the strategic value of integrated initiatives like this for the internationalization of Made in Italy, underlining how the synergy between different sectors—sporting events, tourism and food and wine—represents a concrete driver to strengthen the global positioning of Italian products and to create new export opportunities.

A key moment of the event was the signing of the agreement between the DOC Delle Venezie Consortium and RCS MediaGroup, followed by an official toast with Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC. The occasion also featured the unveiling of a branded DOC Delle Venezie magnum bottle created for the Giro d’Italia, which will be used during podium ceremonies, alongside the Giro d’Italia, Giro d’Italia Women and  Giro Next Gen trophies, presented in preview.

The collaboration is part of a three-year project aimed at strengthening the denomination’s international positioning, enhancing the connection between wine, territory and tourism, and creating new visibility and communication opportunities for the entire supply chain, while promoting the North-East of Italy as an integrated system of excellence.
