Giro d’Italia 2026, Stage 10: route, favourites and where to watch it on TV

18/05/2026

It’s time to bring out the stopwatch, because the first — and only — individual time trial of the 2026 Giro d’Italia is here. After the rest day, the race wakes up in Tuscany for a fast and demanding 42 km test from Viareggio to Massa, tailor-made for the great specialists — those who love to push massive gears and thrive in long, punishing solo efforts. For everyone else, it will simply be a matter of survival. Rome is still a long way off, but this is already a crucial day for the general classification.

Don’t miss a single pedal stroke of the worlds’ toughest race in the world’s most beautiful country!

The Route

There are virtually no elevation challenges to worry about. This is an almost entirely flat and straight time trial, interrupted only by two U-turns. Riders roll out from Viareggio, heading south through the pine forest along Viale dei Tigli. The first U-turn comes at Marina di Torre del Lago, before retracing the outward route back to Viareggio, where the course joins the seafront heading north.
From there, the riders follow the Versilia coastline all the way to Marina di Massa, before turning inland for the second U-turn in Rinchiostra. The route then heads back towards the seafront for around 800 metres, before one final turn inland leads the riders to the finish line.

The Favourites

Filippo Ganna (Netcompany INEOS) has been waiting for this day for the past ten days. He is by far the overwhelming favourite for victory, especially considering that 31 of his 39 professional wins have come in time trials.

Trying to throw a spanner in the works will be Alec Segaert (Bahrain Victorious) and Rémi Cavagna (Groupama-FDJ United), while among the GC contenders, the strongest candidates appear to be Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike), who is looking to deliver another major shake-up in the general classification, and Thymen Arensman (Netcompany INEOS). Also hoping to spring a surprise are Niklas Larsen (Unibet Rose Rockets), a surprise European bronze medallist last year, Lorenzo Milesi (Movistar), Magnus Sheffield (Netcompany INEOS) and Matteo Sobrero (Lidl-Trek).
