FantaGiro d’Italia: stage goes to Harper, but everything is still up for grabs

Another breakaway leads to victory, highlighted by the conquest of the Cima Coppi, with Chris Harper (Team Jayco AlUla) as the undisputed star of the day. His winning performance earned him the victory in Stage 20 of the FantaGiro d’Italia, the 205 km Verrès – Sestrière (Vialattea). The Australian rider, born in 1992, delivered the highest-scoring performance in a single stage of the 2025 edition, thanks to a blend of key results and special bonuses for a total of 136 points: 30 points for his first-place finish, 6 points for being first over the Red Bull KM, and 20 for conquering the Cima Coppi. He also picked up 5 points for placing in the 3rd cat. KOM, along with 10 points for the Combativity Award and another 10 for the Breakaway Award. Additional bonuses boosted his tally: 5 points for wearing the Colle delle Finestre Jersey, 5 for the Toast bonus, 10 for his first career Giro stage win, 10 for the Rotoloni Regina “Passion Never Ends” bonus as a rider over 30, 10 for the Novi bonus for winning the stage after at least 20 km solo, 5 for the SOLO Monorigine Coffee bonus for a 10 km solo break, and 10 points for the 3B Meteo bonus for winning under the rain.

Just behind him was the new Maglia Rosa, Simon Yates (Team Visma | Lease a Bike), who secured second place on the day with 39 points. Yates earned 15 points for his stage result, 10 for taking the partial lead in the Maglia Rosa classification, 2 from a 3rd cat. KOM placement, another 2 from the Super Team classification, and 10 for claiming the leader’s jersey overall, marking a turning point in the race.

Rounding out the podium was Alessandro Verre (Arkéa – B&B Hotels). The Italian accumulated 37 points, scoring 18 points for his third-place finish, 4 points for taking second over the Red Bull KM, 12 points from the Cima Coppi, and 3 more from the 3rd cat. KOM.

The general classification in the FantaGiro remains wide open, with Mads Pedersen and Lorenzo Fortunato separated by just 24 points, everything is still on the line heading into the final showdown.
