Nico Denz’s solo move earns the 31-year-old German rider from Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe the win in Stage 17 of the FantaGiro d’Italia, the 144 km Morbegno – Cesano Maderno stage.
Denz scored a total of 80 points: 30 for the stage win, 5 for the Toast bonus, 10 for the Breakaway Prize, 10 for the “Never-Ending Passion” Queen bonus (awarded to an over-30 rider winning a Giro stage), 5 for the SOLO Single-Origin Coffee bonus (“Going SOLO” for at least 10 km alone in the lead), 10 for the Youth Card Salute bonus, and another 10 for the Daily Bonus (interviewed by Umberto Martini).
In second place for the day’s standings was Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana Team) with 27 points: 10 for winning the 2nd cat. KOM, 10 for leading two 3rd cat. KOMs, 3 for XDS Astana Team’s 2nd place in the Super Team classification, and 4 from the Conad “Grocery” bonus.
Mads Pedersen (Lidl – Trek) completed the stage podium with 24 points: 10 for winning both intermediate sprints, 10 for the Bouquet bonus, and 4 from the Conad “Grocery” bonus.
