Luke Plapp (Team Jayco AlUla) won Stage 8 of the FantaGiro d’Italia, the 197 km stage from Giulianova to Castelraimondo.
The 24-year-old Australian racked up a whopping 98 points, broken down as follows:
30 for the stage win, 6 for first at the Red Bull KM, 5 for winning the cat. 3 KOM, 3 for taking the cat. 4 KOM, 5 for the “Toast” bonus, 10 for winning a Giro stage for the first time, 4 for the Conad “Grocery” bonus, 10 for the Novi “Full-Gas Breakaway” bonus (for winning the stage after a solo of at least 20 km), 5 for the SOLO Caffè Monorigine bonus (for riding solo for at least 10 km), 10 for the Fondazione Telethon “Water Bottle” bonus (for handing a bottle to a fan), and another 10 points for the Breakaway Prize.
In second place for the stage was Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS Astana Team) with 66 points:
9 for second place in the current Giro GC, 8 for his stage placing, 5 for intermediate sprints, 15 for winning the cat. 1 KOM, 3 for his team’s second place in the Super Team standings, 10 for the Combativity Award, 5 for the “Toast” bonus, 10 for the Bouquet Bonus, and 1 for the Conad “Grocery” bonus.
Completing the podium was the new Maglia Rosa, Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana Team), with 57 points: 10 for taking the Maglia Rosa, 10 for leading the Giro GC, 15 for his stage placing, 2 for intermediate sprint placings, 2 for third at the Red Bull KM, 3 for his placing in the cat. 1 KOM, 2 for the cat. 3 KOM, 2 for the cat. 4 KOM, 3 for his team’s second place in the Super Team standings, 5 for the “Toast” Bonus, and 3 for the Conad bonus.
