BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
The route rolls downhill from the Sanctuary (follow the signs for Cialla and Albana and always turn left) along the Slovenian border all the way to Podresca, at the bottom of a short yet demanding climb (5.2km / 7.8% average gradient) that leads to Trivio Spig (approx. 3km from the start point).
Technical info
From Trivio, the undulating route winds up through the woodland for over 20km to Drenchia and offers stunning views.
From Drenchia a very steep and narrow descent through the woods leads to Clodig. The following 15km are slightly downhill all the way to Carraria, at the bottom of the climb heading to the Sanctuary of Castelmonte.
Please note that the steepest ramps are at the beginning of the climb and immediately following the short descent that interrupts the ascent after 2.5km.
NOTES:
As most of the road rolls in the woods, in autumn mind the huge amount of leaves on the ground that are particularly slippery if damp.
ROUTE CHANGES DURING YOUR RIDE:
You can ride back to the Sanctuary from Trivio Spig along a gentle descent.
You can also set off from Cividale del Friuli and at Carraria ride toward Albana to rejoin the original route at the bottom of the first descent.
