tourist info

Cogne lies in the southern part of Valle d’Aosta, at the foot of the Gran Paradiso massif. Since the Middle Ages, the town has been known for its magnetite deposits. Cogne was an important mining centre (the extracted mineral was sent to the Cogne Steelworks in Aosta) until the end of the 1970s (when the mine was definitively closed).

The Alpinart exhibition centre in the Cogne Miners’ Village houses “La miniera di Cogne”, a permanent exhibition on the mines (with interactive displays that help visitors identify with the miners) and a 1.5 km route through the tunnel on board a vintage train.
