Rui Costa's debut

The bond between Rui Alberto Faria da Costa, known in the world of cycling simply like Rui Costa, and Italy is strong: just think about the world champion title won in Florence in 2013, the Giro delle Regioni won in 2007 at the age of twenty-one and militancy in the Italian Lampre-Merida and, now, in the UAE Team Emirates based in Italy.

For the runner born in Povoa de Varzim in 1986 miss the participation to the Giro d’Italia, without which Rui Costa decided to remedy in a particularly significant year for the Corsa Rosa, to its 100th edition

“I am doubly happy to be here for the first time in my career at the Giro d’Italia,” said Rui Costa. “The Giro is a fantastic race in a beautiful country, and it is exciting to have the opportunity to run it in its own n.100 edition.

I have never been to the Giro d’Italia for a matter of scheduling about the personal andt the teams calendar I played in, I was confronted with the Tour de France as a Great Tour, but during the winter I realized the idea of trying to measure myself with the Corsa Rosa.
I reflected with the technical staff, team preparers and management and decided that it would be a good idea.

I have not been to much in Italy during my career, but I have always been satisfied and received affection from Italian cycling fans.
The memories of Florence 2013 will remain indelible in my mind, I hope to add as many unforgettable images during the Giro d’Italia.

Of Italy I appreciate many things, in addition to the great cycling tradition and mythical races such as the Giro, Milano-Sanremo and Il Lombardia.
The kitchen is great, although when we are in racing in Italy we do not have too many opportunities to give us culinary delights.
The landscapes are magnificent: the Giro d’Italia in this field is unreachable, there is no other race that offers the eye of the spectator such a variety of natural and historical beauties, each stage proposes so many jewels to discover.

The Italians are then affectionate and welcoming, I say for personal experience: I found myself very successful in joining an Italian team, all of whom were exceptional in helping me in the setting, considering however that Portuguese culture and way of life is not so different from the Italian one.

The Giro n.100 will offer a good number of fractions that may fit my features, I have always liked to go hunting for stages and it would be great to be able to catch up on some of the Corsa Rosa: a success would be worth a lot, since I’m going to debut”.
