The tweets of the day: the hug between Thomas and Almeida, Gee in the breakaway again

Geraint Thomas and João Almeida challenged each other head-to-head on their way up to Monte Bondone. They had a common goal, to gain time on their rivals, but at the finish it was a real sprint, and the Portuguese won. After the finish, however, they embraced each other, a good sign of sportmanship before the challenges coming up. This is cycling.

This time, the breakaway did not make it to the end, but Derek Gee (Israel-PremierTech) was there again today. In a nice video, Israel let us know that he was also in the breakaway on the rest day, despite being asked by his teammates to take an easy ride…

Soudal-QuickStep also lost Davide Ballerini. Only two riders remain: Pieter Serry and Ilan Van Wilder.
