The tweets of the day: happy birthday Geraint, Bonifazio’s skills

25/05/2023

Geraint Thomas turned 37 yesterday and did so by wearing the Maglia Rosa in the Dolomites. Just like his compatriot Cavendish a few days ago, Geraint earned a cake at the start and hit the road with a smile. The affection of the fans along the roads and the time gained on Almeida certainly made it a very happy birthday. “Not many people get to spend their 37th birthday like this eh? Thanks for all the messages, everyone. Three days to go…”.

After Crans-Montana, Thibaut Pinot also came second in Val di Zoldo, outsprinted by Filippo Zana. For Thibaut, defeat is always painful, but today he took it with a bit more philosophy. On twitter, the Frenchman quoted the post of OptaJean, a statistics specialist: “Pinot is the first rider this year to collect five second places in UCI races without being able to win”, commenting it with a statement that could be translated as “Why am I not surprised?”.

Finally, Niccolò Bonifazio‘s trick (in the Caorle stage) is noteworthy. No words are needed, the video says it all. Wow!
