There are thousands of stories within a sprint, and the Caorle one was no exception. The winner Alberto Dainese, for instance, is not a rider very used to winning and it took him a few seconds to realise that he was indeed the winner of Stage 17, especially since it took a photo finish to figure out the winner.

For those who rejoice, there are those who regret a missed opportunity. This is the case of Arne Marit, sprinter for Intermarché-Circus-Wanty: “I survived two weeks in the mountains because I had my mind on stage 17. We did everything perfectly, I had the legs to win my first Giro stage. I launched my sprint & my chain broke. I have no words” said Marit, visibly shaken and disappointed.
