Today’s stage of the Giro d’Italia
Stage 10: Pescara-Jesi (196 km)
The route
Stage divided into two distinct parts. The first half is entirely flat along the Adriatic state road where the difficulties lie in the traffic obstacles in the villages we pass through. The second part, on the other hand, does not have a second to breathe, studded with small and medium-sized climbs and some real walls. The altimetry changes and the roads narrow, become much steeper and sometimes the surface degrades a little. We climb Civitanova Alta to Crosette di Montecosaro, Recanati, Filottrano, Santa Maria Nuova and Monsano. From Monsano there are only 9 km to the finish line.
The last kilometres
Fast descent on wide road to the town of Jesi at about 1400 m from the finish. Right turn and entry into the final straight always uphill (average 2%). Finish line on straight asphalt road.
Who will be the protagonists?
The stage, although somewhat simpler, is reminiscent of that of the Marche walls of the Tirreno-Adriatico 2021, when Mathieu Van der Poel put on a memorable show. Precisely for this reason the Dutchman of Alpecin-Fenix will certainly try to be a protagonist, to be seen whether by inserting himself in the day’s breakaway or by keeping the race closed and attacking in the second half of the race. Similar characteristics to him has Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert), with whom they have already ‘caught up’ after the stage in Naples. In any case, fast but uphill-resistant riders fit the perfect profile for this stage, which promises to be anything but predictable.
