Great participation in Rome for the Family Ride

26/05/2024

In a unique setting, between the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus, the Family Ride, a 6.8 kilometre ride organised by RCS Sport in collaboration with the Municipality of Rome, took place this morning to inauguratethe final stage of the 107th Giro d’Italia.

With the queue from the Baths of Caracalla and the start at 11.15 in Via di San Gregorio, the finish of today’s last stage of the Corsa Rosa, about 4000 riders gathered to admire the beauties of the Capital, in a day dedicated to sport. A renewed success in terms of participation for the second year running.

“The Family Ride was a great popular celebration that opened the day of the Grande Arrivo of the Giro d’Italia in Rome. It was exciting to see over 4000 people, with many happy children, pedalling along a spectacular stretch of the route, right in the historic centre, which will then be crossed by the Carovana Rosa,” said Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion. “We are convinced that major events must involve the whole city, also to promote sporting activity, which is the best way to spread correct lifestyle habits and promote the healthy values of sport”.

The Cycling Cup, an initiative of the Federazione Ciclistica Italiana in cooperation with the Lazio regional committee, was also held shortly after the finish of the Family Ride, allowing young team racers to compete on the finishing straight of the stage. It was realised with the support of the Ministry for Sport and Youths, in order to facilitate young people’s approach to cycling, promote a correct lifestyle and spread a fair play culture, in compliance with the 10 principles set out in the 1992 UNESCO Charter of Children’s Rights in Sport.
