BiciScuola, the edutainment project dedicated to children, is back

29/02/2024

BiciScuola, RCS Sport’s successful “edutainment” project, now in its 23rd edition, is back. The purpose of this venture has always been to introduce the younger generation to cycling as part of a healthy lifestyle, to the spirit of sportsmanship, to a balanced diet, to road safety education and to the rules of the new sustainable mobility. The free initiative involves children from primary school classes (aged 6-10) in the areas where the GIRO D’ITALIA and GIRO-E will be passing.

The project runs all year round, as it is also extended to RCS Sport’s great cycling races: Strade Bianche Women Elite, Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-Sanremo, Milano-Torino, GranPiemonte and Il Lombardia.

Notably, during the next Giro d’Italia, a group of Ukrainian children will be invited to attend the start of stage number 19 on 24 May in Mortegliano, in the province of Udine, thanks to the volunteers and operators of AiCS Hungary.

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is the ‘gateway to Italy’ for populations in difficulty, owing to its geographical location on the border. For the past two years, this association, led by Giovanni Colosimo, has been on the front line in favour of Ukraine to offer support to the many orphaned children, working to welcome them through its assistance centres and contributing to the transportation of medicines and basic necessities to conflict-affected areas. BiciScuola is a special occasion that will allow the youngsters to experience an exciting day full of emotions at the Corsa Rosa.

How BiciScuola works

The pupils of the classes enrolled in BiciScuola will be asked to submit a creative artwork on one of the topics of the project. The class that has produced the best entry will receive a prize on stage on the day of the race. Many side activities are planned on field to make the days during the events memorable. These include lessons on road safety education, a topical and sensitive issue that is paramount for young people, organised by the Polizia Stradale (the Traffic Police), which has been promoting young people’s involvement over the years by taking their ‘blue bus’ – a multimedia vehicle where lessons are held during the stages – on tour along the event.

Participants will be sent printed educational materials and will be given access to the reserved area of the website containing videos and the digital version of some materials.

The numbers

To date, more than 1.660 million kids have been involved since the first edition – a record-breaking figure! Here are the numbers from the previous edition: 4 thousand 900 teachers involved, 12 thousand schools reached and 65 thousand participating children.
