Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) has won Stage 3 of Il Giro di Sicilia Eolo, 180km from Termini Imerese to Caronia. Alessandro Covi (UAE Team Emirates) and Jhonatan Restrepo (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec) finished second and third respectively.

Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) wears the Maglia Giallo Rossa and leads the General Classification.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) said: “It’s a surprise to win here. Sometimes I have felt good, sometimes I’ve felt bad. I’ve tried to win to repay the team for their hard work. We started the stage with the idea of riding for the win but after a crash, you never know how you are really. Tomorrow we’ll see if there’s an opportunity to win the race overall too.”
