Over 10.000 riders have pedaled the seven stages of the Giro d’Italia Virtual by Enel
The Giro d’Italia Virtual by Enel, organized by RCS Sport in partnership with Garmin Edge and Tacx, has seen more than 10.000 riders take to their smart trainers to pedal the closing kilometres of seven stages of the Corsa Rosa’s official route. Those taking part have experienced the race’s arrival in Tortoreto, the rolling hills of the Nove Colli, a stage finale at San Daniele del Friuli, gruelling summit finishes at Madonna di Campiglio and Sestriere (both offering nearly 1000m of elevation in their final 30km) and Milan’s 15.7km time trial to finish. The 2.5 million video views on the official platforms and the 500 stories published on the event’s Instagram profile also testify to the great interest around the first Giro d’Italia Virtual by Enel.
The event offered both a taste of the Corsa Rosa and a true competitive challenge. Amongst the professionals, Astana Pro Team claimed overall victory in the first edition of the Giro d’Italia Virtual, wearing the Maglia Rosa from start to finish. The dominant display was the result of efforts from riders including Jakob Fuglsang, Alexey Lutsenko, Davide Martinelli and Ion and Gorka Izagirre. Numerous other big names competed against each other throughout the race, such as Elia Viviani, Domenico Pozzovivo, Robert Gesink, Sonny Colbrelli, Steven Kruijswijk, Grega Bole, Enrico Battaglin, Omar Fraile, Alberto Bettiol, Fausto Masnada e Laurens De Plus.
