The Prime Minister of Italy at the start of Stage 5 of the Giro d'Italia

Good afternoon from Stage 5 of the Giro d’Italia, organised by RCS Sport/La Gazzetta dello Sport, and running from 11 May to 2 June. This morning the Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte, paid a visit to the Corsa Rosa and started Stage 5, from Frascati to Terracina, 140km. A short stage with a circuit in the finale, probably destined to end in a bunch sprint.

The Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte said: “It is an honor and a pleasure to be here. I have always followed the Giro d’Italia, many times I was also among the people on the road waiting for the race. The Giro d’Italia is a means to show our country in the world. I would never have thought of getting on the podium one day with the riders. Good luck to all the riders!” He then addressed the Italian riders: “The country is watching you“.

The peloton, 171 riders strong, passed km 0 at 14:09. Did not start: bib number 46 – Kristijan Koren (Bahrain – Merida).

Frascati (14:00 – start): Rain, 11°C. Wind: weak N – 6km/h.
Terracina (17:15 – finish): Chance of Showers, 13°C. Wind: weak ENE – 10km/h.

During the stage, 13 seconds of time bonus are up for grabs in the individual overall classification by time, a maximum of 72 points are available for the points classification (787 remaining), and 3 points for the King of the Mountains competition (661 remaining).
