On Saturday, 11th May the 102nd edition of the Giro d’Italia will kick off, and Continental Italia, for the second year in a row, will be official sponsor of the Corsa Rosa.
“Our partnership with Giro d’Italia represents a unique opportunity for Continental to share the culture of safety within the road ecosystem and raise awareness on the topic of road sharing, starting from the cyclists, which are the most disadvantaged category in urban contexts. This is exactly why Continental is Safety Partner of Giro, Safety sponsor of the road” said Alessandro De Martino, CEO of Continental Italia.
The philosophy of the group, which develops and invests in technologies aimed at making vehicles and roads safer, is substantiated in projects, such as Vision Zero, which have the ambitious goal of reaching zero fatalities, zero injuries and zero accidents on the road.
The history of Continental’s tire production starts in 1892, when the first air-inflated bicycle tire was produced, while the first auto tire was produced in 1898. This makes Continental the tire producer with the longest-standing tradition in Germany. Today, the company is working towards the goal of improving tires for two-wheeled vehicles and automobiles, applying – in some cases – the same technologies to both. For example, the “Black Chili” blend allows a high-level grip not only to bicycle tires, but also to the high-performance tires for automobiles that Continental produces.
