Giro day in Germany, first edition goes up!

Last Sunday, RCS Sport and Alpecin held the first edition of Giro Day Germany in Bielefeld, Germany, at a historic location.

The two organizers aimed to share the beauty of the sport in an atmosphere celebrating the Italian Grand Tour. As a WorldTour team riding under a German license, Team Giant-Alpecin was invited to join the initiative with the goal of contributing to the development of the sport of cycling in Germany.

Many enthusiastic participants joined the event, the aim was to offer an active cycling experience to fans and promote German cycling. The morning program included a meet and greet with the team’s riders and a bike ride. In the afternoon, a kids’ bike ride was organized for the youngest fans, followed by an autograph session and a technical discussion with a Team Giant-Alpecin mechanic. To finish off the day, the fans attended a question-and-answer session with the riders and watched the Giro d’Italia stage three together on a big screen.

“Last January, we took part in Team Giant-Alpecin’s team launch in the Italian Embassy in Berlin, and together with Alpecin we decided to organize a promotional fan event in Germany,” said Paolo Bellino (ITA), CEO of RCS Sport. “There is a great deal of potential in Germany for the development of cycling, and there is a big cycling culture, with a lot of people riding their bikes. We have also noticed that cycling is increasingly being embraced for health purposes and for transportation.

We are pleased that Germany is becoming interested and involved in cycling again, especially with the broadcasters returning to cover professional races and German companies willing to invest in the sport. Organizing events like this is a good way to support this trend.”
